About your Guide, Dr. elSa field
I’m Dr Elsa Field, PhD Scientist, Singer & Mentor to women on the path of the Sound Priestess, founder of the Priestess of Sacred Sound Practitioner Training.
Although I’m mostly known as a singer, it was at the tender age of 10 when I first began playing percussion instruments, starting with the drum kit throughout my teenage years, when it was still rare to see a girl behind the drums. I’ll always remember finding inspiration in trailblazers like Sheila E and Karen Carpenter, drumming superstars!
In my mid-twenties I discovered the work of Layne Redmond and her seminal book, When the Drummers Were Women — a true awakening. I dove into frame drum and tambourine studies with teachers like Barbara Gail and Josie Dow, and have spent the past five years practicing, recording, and finding my own way of sharing this instrument.
My invitation: pair your voice with the frame drum. They weave together as a timeless medicine.
Whenever I feel angry, I sing & drum.

Whenever I feel uncertain, I sing & drum.
This ancient embodiment practice brings solace, clarity, creativity — and it’s available to all.
Now, at the time of sharing this ceremony, I am carrying my first baby in my womb.
This feels even more magical… my baby growing to the beat of my pulse, dancing in rhythm with my drum.
Earlier this year I created the Sonic Temple Sisterhood, a monthly online space devoted to the path of Song & Drum. We learn simple, empowering divine feminine chants with the frame drum — singing & drumming together from all over the world.
